What Is Grokker?
Grokker is an innovative research and information management tool that searches several databases simultaneously or separately and presents the results in a topically organized, visual map. Grokker is a product of Groxis Inc.
Where does the name Grokker come from?
The name is a derivative of the term "grok" which comes for Robert Heinlein's classic book, A Stranger in a Strange Land. To grok is to deeply understand something. Grokker allows users to make discoveries and see how information is related, thus enabling them to "grok" their research topic.
Grokker @ BU Libraries
Understanding that many students are visual learners, the Binghamton University Libraries have implemented Grokker, an intuitive visual search interface. This dynamic visual interface will be available for infoLINK, the library catalog, many of the EBSCO databases the Libraries subscribes to as well as to Google and the Internet Public Library.
